Thought Parking

Your car needs to be parked occasionally and fueled as well; you can’t drive it nonstop. Only the car would then endure a long time. This connects to your thoughts as well. I have to thank my brother Rafael for this way of thinking — it’s a straightforward yet deep perspective that has altered the way I think.

A lot of things were happening all at once in my life and I was having a hard time figuring out what was going on. I was like,

WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?

I wouldn’t like to go into the details of what was going on then for it’s a personal matter and simply spreading the word would make it weak and cheap. Rather, you can imagine your life where you had a lot of things going on; messed up, having a hard time keeping up with the bombardment of thoughts in your head. By doing so, we can relate to one another; let’s call this our common ground.

So we have our heads messed up, just like the picture below.

Out of the blue, my brother Rafael asked me a question,

Are you feeling OK?

My answer to that was, that I felt as if my head was clouded and I was unable to perceive what was happening around me. Rafael asked yet another question, more like a suggestion.

“You can stay at our apartment with me and Vini (my sister-in-law).”

Unable to think, I knew; I would not be OK at my house, thus, I agreed to tag along.

Seldom, you have a window open where you get to see a new perspective. I found it as we sat around and have a talk about it.

WISE WORDS

Rafael simply said, “Brother, you have a good heart and are a very decent person but time and again you repeat a few words that I have stopped uttering for a long long time.”

I was like, “What words?”

He continued, “You keep on saying that your head is clouded and you tell another person about it. But, you’ll always be the first person to listen to that word as your ear is closer to your mouth than others. Since you heard that your head is clouded, the cloud becomes darker; as for me I don’t utter them, I simply Hmmmm, on those thoughts.”

I had never thought about it and he continued further,

“It has been quite some time since I knew a thing about Thought Parking. Thoughts arise, they arise automatically; you cannot stop it, the only thing you can do is, Park the thought as soon as it arises.”

Just hmmmm about the thought and park it.

BLOWN AWAY

I was instantly blown away by the way of thinking. A thought, never thought about just came to the surface and it did not only surface out; it was crystal clear. I was like, ‘Woah’.

People call me a storyteller, I wouldn’t boast about it; but I just so happen to try things to relate in a way, say simply for others to understand.

CAR ANALOGY

Imagine you have a car, the first one in your life; you’d be jumping with joy right? Well, who wouldn’t? I would simply be doing the same.

If you’d like to go on a ride, you can push the accelerator to the ground so hard that you’d be zooming through the space. You take your car wherever you feel like.

BUT THEN WHAT IF?

What if you got along a deserted road, had no cellphone reach, and the fuel was all used up, what would you do?

You’d simply panic, life’s first car, first ride, on a deserted road with no signal to communicate.

The nature of thought is similar.

UNPARKED THOUGHTS

Now let’s look at a thought, a thought rises and you do nothing about it. It will be like a car in motion without any destination. It piles up over time, it has taken such a tremendous amount of fuel that your brain becomes numb; it simply breaks down. It was a petty thought, say you wanted to make your bed, but you didn’t. It was quite easy to achieve but you did not put in the effort. “I should have made my bed”, kept on ringing, this thought got mixed with other thoughts of the day and now other thoughts too were incomplete.

One petty unparked thought wreaked havoc.

You can look into your life for I am simply putting forth the thought that came into mine.

I need to write on Thought Parking, I am on the process of parking the thought about writing.

PARKING, PARKING, PARKING BUT DON’T RUSH

You might have millions of things at your disposal that need to be done, but always prioritize and start with a doable one. When one thing gets done, you’ll be motivated; and self-motivated to complete the other one.

Multitasking is a myth, complete one and move on to another.

Finally, when you are good at parking the small thoughts and since they got parked; you’ll have much courage to go for the bigger thoughts.

After all, the sky is the limit, and guess what? There is no sky. Let’s park it all.

Thought Parking got parked.
